The Facet Wealth Scholarship for Increased Diversity in Financial Planning​

At Facet Wealth, we believe that diverse representation in the financial planning profession will lead to better outcomes for a more diverse set of clients. This scholarship awards up to $5,000 as well as ongoing support from CFP® professionals at Facet to help students earn certification or a degree. Leslie McCullough

Western Michigan University, B.S.

Leslie is currently working in the banking industry and her passion for closing the racial wealth gap led her to sign up for coursework to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. She is currently completing the coursework through Kaplan and excited about the future opportunities the certification will provide. Leslie is a graduate of Western Michigan University, a wife and mom of 4 beautiful children.

Azaré Mercer

Edinboro University, B.S.

Azaré is a recent graduate from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he was a track athlete for four years and a brother of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science: Business Administration degree concentrating in Personal Financial Planning.

Alex Gardener

University of Georgia, B.S.

Alex is a small business owner who started his company after being laid off during the housing crash of 2008. It wasn't the best time to start a business, so he had to get up and running fast. He quickly learned about business finance, self-employment, and taxes all while navigating his finances and relationships. It was truly a case of "sink or swim." Within two years of starting on his own, he doubled his previous salary. Now, he desires to share what has (and hasn't) worked for him in the last twenty years so that the next generation of ambitious young people don't make the same mistakes he did.

Tempeste Hernandez

University of Texas at Austin, B.F.A.

Tempeste is an enthusiastic financial services professional who has been serving families of all walks of life for almost 10 years. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she channeled her dedication to helping others into a career in banking and hasn’t looked back since. She is currently pursuing the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ marks to deepen her knowledge and skills in assisting clients of all communities reach their financial goals. She is committed to the practice that all people deserve access to competent financial planning. In her free time, Tempeste enjoys traveling with her husband, exploring art museums and practicing yoga.

The Facet Wealth Scholarship for Increased Diversity in Financial Planning

The scholarship, in partnership with the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, benefits African American/Black CFP® candidates seeking to become CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals. The funds will cover the expenses associated with completing the education required to obtain the CFP® certification.
