Is there any experience you think everyone should be required to have? What is it?

Yes, I believe that everyone should have some experience in a service role, whether it be in hospitality, retail, or a community volunteer project. Being of service to others teaches a level of patience, humility, and human connection that completely changes how you view the world.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?

Success is not a final destination, but a collection of small daily choices which lead you down a path of success.

What book, movie, music, etc. changed your outlook on life?

A Random Walk Down Wall Street, by Burton Malkiel, has been a staple in the finance industry since the 1970s, and this book changed many of my viewpoints early in my career. The book covers market history, behavioral finance, and focuses largely on why so many active managers fail to match the broader market.

What hobby or interest do you wish you could get more people into?

The game of chess teaches strategic thinking, patience, and problem-solving skills. In chess and financial planning, thinking ahead means you don’t look at your pieces for what they are worth right now, but for what they can do five moves from now.
